Job Description
Job summary
The Credit Officer is responsible for sourcing, appraising, disbursing, and monitoring loans to ensure portfolio quality and sustainable growth. The role involves assessing clients’ creditworthiness, conducting field visits, verifying loan information, managing repayments, and maintaining strong client relationships while complying with institutional credit policies and procedures. The Credit Officer is responsible for assessing, approving, and monitoring loan applications to ensure quality portfolio growth and minimal credit risk.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Identify and mobilize potential loan clients.
- Receive, review, and analyze loan applications.
- Conduct field visits for client appraisal and business verification.
- Assess clients’ repayment capacity and credit risk.
- Prepare and submit credit appraisal reports for approval.
- Facilitate loan disbursement in line with approved terms.
- Monitor loan utilization and ensure proper use of funds.
- Follow up on repayments and manage loan recovery.
- Maintain accurate client and loan documentation.
- Build and maintain good relationships with clients.
- Prepare periodic credit and portfolio performance reports.
- Minimum of OND / HND / Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields.
- 1–3 years of experience in credit, loan administration, or microfinance operations (an added advantage).
- Fresh graduates may be considered for entry-level roles.
- Strong analytical and credit appraisal skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork and work under pressure.
- Basic knowledge of loan products and credit risk management.
- Good numerical and reporting skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the local business environment is an added advantage.
