Job Description
Role Summary:
The Operations & Quality Control Manager is the technical and operational leader of the bakery. This person ensures that every product meets the highest standards of quality, consistency, and safety. They are deeply experienced in confectionery, hands-on in production processes, and capable of leading the team by example.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Production Oversight
- Lead and supervise all daily bakery operations, including production, packaging, shipping, and cleaning.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate production to meet demand while maintaining quality and efficiency.
- Consolidate product orders and ensure accurate production planning to prevent shortages or waste.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement solutions for improved productivity.
Hands-On Confectionery Expertise
- Maintain deep involvement in baking, decorating, and confectionery production standards.
- Perform quality control checks at every stage of production — before, during, and after.
- Ensure proper handling and maintenance of specialized bakery equipment.
- Set and enforce standards for taste, presentation, and consistency across all products.
Staff Leadership & Training
- Train and mentor staff on best practices, processes, and quality standards.
- Assign duties, monitor performance, and provide coaching to maintain high productivity.
- Enforce policies, SOPs, and disciplinary measures consistently and fairly.
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement
- Implement and maintain strict quality control protocols.
- Minimize waste and optimize the use of resources.
- Review and update operational SOPs to reflect best practices and evolving standards.
Reporting & Accountability
- Maintain production records, quality logs, and operational reports.
- Accountable for maintaining high standards, resolving issues proactively, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Key Attributes & Competencies:
- Deep technical knowledge of bakery and confectionery production
- Hands-on leadership style – leads by doing, not just delegating
- Years of experience in high-volume bakery operations
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to train and hold staff accountable
- Problem-solver and decision-maker under pressure
WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE
Have at least A B.sc qualification or an equivalent. Must be hardworking, respectful, firm, diligent and available to put in time to ensure that the organizational goals are achieved. Must be experienced in handling people and the operations of a fast growing organisation. Must be living in close proximity to the bakery. Can be either Male or Female.
Must have excellent communication skills, pay attention to details. Ability to lead teams to success.Strategic planning and business development experience. Ability to plan, organize and implement activities. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills and excellent time management skills.
